No Toll Road in SJC
A recent San Juan Capistrano mayor called for The Toll Roads (TCA) to explore extending the existing 73 toll road through San Juan Capistrano’s open space and wildlife preserve to connect to Antonio Parkway in Rancho Mission Viejo (1). The Toll Roads agreed and have added this “beltway option” to the list of routes they are now exploring for South Orange County route expansions. While I believe that well-planned toll roads can play a roll in alleviating regional traffic congestion, the proposed route behind our Stoneridge, Marbella and Hunt Club neighborhoods would be a disaster for San Juan Capistrano residents and the environment. Studies show that the massive improvements required to complete such a route would be incredibly expensive and that the freeway, even when completed, would provide little traffic improvement.
Our family’s yard backs up to the trails and wildlife preserve that would be decimated by the proposed toll road. You can count on me to do everything I can to see the San Juan Toll Road option removed from consideration by TCA. I have already presented at TCA board meetings in opposition to the route and will continue to fight to preserve our open space.
